Preparing to experience the joy of Inkscape

Your conference audience contains more new users
I think there's a couple of valid reasons to present at conferences over and above creating web content. 1. There are people who don't yet realise they want to know Inkscape. Some of these people might be at linux.conf.au and attend the tutorial on a whim and emerge Inkscape users: they are less likely to discover it via Flickr or YouTube use. 2. People come to a conference in a learning frame of mind, having (often) left their home and usual pursuits in order to do so. They are actively seeking new ideas, new tools and new experiences. Web users are unlikely to be as receptive at that given moment. Thus, conferences are an opportunity for more focussed not-yet-a-user-but-in-the-target-market outreach. Once the conference have got over the (significant) hurdle of deciding to spend their time on using Inkscape, webcasts are suitable ongoing learning material. -Mary

Good points Mary - I have to agree. In fact, Attending Andy Fitzsimon's tutorial at LCA06 had this effect on me. I can't remember now if I'd used Inkscape much at all before that, but I certainly came out knowing more about the application and what it can do. I left with a strong desire to continue to learn. Thanks! -Donna
