I went for a swim today! And yesterday too - And I've been walking daily for over a week. It feels good. It's been too long.
I've also cut out sugar in my coffee.
I've become obese in recent years and it just feels awful. It's never been about body image for me. Thank goodness! I've seen the heartbreaking consequences of that kind of thinking. But I do really enjoy having energy, and I've been lacking that for a long time now. I put it down to spending too much energy just carrying too much bulk.
I don't have a goal weight I'm trying to get to - so I'll have to come up with some other motivational mind tricks. At the moment though - the main motivating force is my best buddy Adam and a GPS. We're walking together and tracking our progress online with the aid of technology - as geeky fanatics from way back, this seems to be doing the trick quite nicely.

I use dailyburn.com to track my swimming progress, only because it has a little widget that goes on my iGoogle and lets me know how much exercise I've been doing lately. I don't use any of the nutritional, goal weight etc stuff in there, I just enter my swims and feel happy when it adds an extra flame to my iGoogle chart.
I read a great book a while back called Body Clutter. Talked about stripping back, in what we wear and how we feed our body, back to bare basics in a quest to de-clutter our selves.
I can relate to what you are going through, I am 20k heavier than what I was 3 years ago .. guess we are all getting old as well.
